Some chair bases are relatively easy to replace while others require a working knowledge of electronics to successfully swap them out. We always recommend at least 2 people do the exchange, never attempt it on your own.
The first step is to remove the chair from the base. It is critical to have help for this step and to take extreme care when moving the chair to prevent damage to the bottom of it.
Next, electrical and mechanical connections between the chair & stand must be removed. Be very careful on all AO & Reichert Custom I & Custom II Chairs & Stands, since linking the two together stabilizes the Stand. Never leave the Slit Lamp arm extended since the Stand could topple.
Next remove the old base from it's position. Be sure to remove any loose fluid in the base (a turkey baster is invaluable in this situation) or it will end up on the floor, creating a mess and a potential slipping hazard.
The new chair base is then moved into position. Keep in mind that the average chair base weighs over 200 pounds.
The bottom line is that while you can probalby do the job yourself, we recommend that you either have Tek-Net do the exchange or hire a competent local compnay. We will always work with your service company to ensure that the job gets done to your satisfaction.
